What you can expect from a lesson

Guitar lessons are suitable from aged 8 through to adult, beginner to intermediate. You can choose to have weekly, fortnightly or ad hoc private tuition. My lessons are typically designed to provide a strong foundation in playing the guitar. A typical lesson may include some of the following;

• Introduction to the Guitar: The different parts of the guitar, including the body, neck, strings, and frets. This will help you become familiar with the instrument. 

• Basic Music Theory: You'll cover fundamental concepts like notes, scales, and chords. Understanding the theory behind music is crucial for any musician. 

• Proper Posture and Hand Placement: Teaching you the correct way to hold the guitar, position of the hands, and using a pick is essential to prevent bad habits that can hinder your progress. 

• Tuning: How to tune your guitar, whether by ear or using an electronic tuner. This is crucial for playing in tune and developing a good ear for pitch. 

• Strumming and Picking Techniques.

• Song Repertoire: We can, in time, learn your favourite songs and work on writing your own, if this is something you would like to develop.

• Reading Tablature: How to read guitar tablature, a visual representation of which strings and frets to play for a specific song or riff.  

• Practice Regimen: Encourage you to establish a regular practice routine and provide guidance on how to practice effectively. Consistent practice is key to progress.
